The Two Birds

Not a romantic story

Ihad never been a romantic. Didn’t get a chance to develop this habit, though am sure, I was also born with this trait, but then I lost it. As they say, if you don’t use it, you lose it.

That’s why seeing him there filled me with dread, instead of happiness.

What was he doing here I had thought.

“You left me, but see, I followed you,” he joked. He was doing engineering at the same university.

And then he kept pestering me to meet him. Right outside the library, I will find him waiting. And one day, when he asked me to meet him at the uni bar, in the evening, and I refused, he took out a letter that I had written to him 4 years ago, and said, “I’ll post this to your husband if you don’t”, and walked away.

And then this blackmail started. Each time, I refused, anything he wanted me to do, he would warn me, of the consequences.

was always afraid and anxious even though I somehow knew he wouldn’t do it, but I obeyed him, and like a doll, I’d just follow him to the park, café, where ever he would lead me. My scholarship money started to disappear slowly, $200 here, $100 there, even $500 when he wanted to buy a second hand car. I was also lagging behind in my work.

I really needed to finish my doctorate this year, I had been thinking, as it was crucial for me to be independent, to get out of my marriage, and also to get away from himA plan was forming in my mind already.

Then he asked me to go away with him, for the weekend. He wanted to make me a happy woman, as it was only I, who could make him a happy man.

We were coming back from the movies, and I was already quite late, I had a lab meeting with my supervisor at 8 in the morning.

So, trying to get away quickly, I just said, “I had a wonderful time tonight, but I really need to get home.”

He looked disappointed, and a bit angry, so I quickly added, “Why wait for the weekend, come to my place tomorrow, I will be all alone, come for dinner”!

By then I had decided to play the trump card, yes, one stone and two birds.

He was taken aback, as he hadn’t been expecting this bonanza.

“Oh darling, you’ve made me so happy!” He smiled.

“Wait until you see what I have planned for us tomorrow”! I smiled.

Thanks

Thanks

for such marvellous prompts. And I have been enjoying reading your own responses to your own prompts 😊.

For this story, I have used the dialogue prompt for this week, using “I had a wonderful time tonight”, and “Wait until you see what I have planned for us tomorrow”!
