The King is Dead, Long Live the King

Just like the snake discarding its old skin.

So many old things get replaced by the new

Whether it is the king, queen or a safety pin.

Each one is, was, and is a ‘has been’.

A box of tissues, daily newspaper,

or my earl grey tea leaves tin

the old ones always get thrown out,

as the new ones come in.

And it is the same story every time

Whether, it is the year, month, or din,

The old one is going out, as the new one is coming in!!

Because, that is the law of nature,

in this cycle of life,

Mufasa always gets replaced by Simba,

the old king dies, the new king comes in.

Then why get attached to old things,

our success stories, our mistakes and failures

it is time to renew, take a chance,

and make new mistakes, write new stories,

finish old chapters and the let the next ones begin!

This poem was written in response to Ravyne Hawke and her Promptly Written Monthly Theme for January 2022

Promptly Written
