PROMPTLY WRITTEN MONTH OF DECEMBER

The reason for the season

this message to hop

We went to see the Christmas lights,

Yes, a family tradition built in the last many years

and this time, not to the local, but the big church

on the fringes of our suburb,

as there was a great write-up about its beautiful Christmas lights.

Yes, it was a great show, majestic, and bright,

with rows and rows of fairy lights!

Trees, and shrubs, turned into many shapes and designs

all covered in bright and yellow lights!

Everywhere, people, running around with their

mobile phones and other gears,

buzzing around attracted to these bright yellow lights!

Long queues waiting for a turn to take a photo

with these bright-shaped lighted globes, gift boxes, elves and reindeers.

Hopping from one to another, in a great hurry, the people were posing,

and clicking, amidst shouting, laughter, and cheers.

Too impatient to wait in a queue, and wandering around,

‘What has Christmas to do with these lights’, I was thinking,

Yes, it’s a celebration, a birthday is coming, it is

time for baby Jesus to be born again,

but at this birthday party,

the birthday Baby was not the centre of attraction

it was the people,

immersed in this frenzy of lights,

with their Facebook or Instagram poses

clicking away with their mobile phones,

who were at the centre

and whom I could see everywhere,

Then I saw in one corner, not that brightly lit corner,

with no queues or rows, the birthday baby, thank god,

was sleeping peacefully,

as the mad rush, the frenzy, and the flashes of cameras

were somewhere else, where there were bright yellow lights.

So with no one around, waiting and pushing in

I finally clicked a photo too!
