Teeku's news 2

Once they settled down, Teeku told Orio the whole story, telling him, from the beginning that what had happened in the morning, and why he was a bit sad, and feeling sleepy in the day time, and how upset he was, and that he just wanted today to end.

Teeku also told Orio, that they were not going to sleep in this room anymore, as he had a new room, which was actually not new, but it was their new bedroom now.

So much was going to change, Teeku sobbed in Orio's neck.

Yes, Teeku's daddy was painting this room, their old bedroom, and getting some new things for the baby.  Yes, Teeku's mum had told him, that his younger brother or sister was coming soon, and if Orio was surprised, then  "Don't be", as a new baby was coming!

And then from next week, Teeku was going to start going to the play school, he already had got his new bag, and a new water bottle  about which he was excited.

But he would be gone from home  for many hours, each day, alone! But yes, other kids will be there, he corrected himself, and he will have new things to learn, and friends to play with, his mum had told him.

But, now his mum wasn't going to be only his mum, she would be the new baby's mum too!

He loved his mum, and didn't want to share her with any one.

"But that's not right, Teeku, you always share everything, you 'can't not' share!" Orio said.

"What do you mean?" Teeku said with tears running down his cheeks.

"Look, Teeku", Orio said gently, "Your mum, you share her with your daddy, and you share your room with your toys, you share your bed with me, and I share you with other toys, and so does your mum!"

"But, I love my mum, and I really love you! And I don't want anyone to take you away, do I?"

Teeku hadn't realised but yes, actually he had been playing with so many different toys during the day, leaving Orio, once he got out of the bed.

Teeku always woke up and went straight to his parents room, and would snuggle up to them slipping right in the middle. May be not always, but mostly, if he woke up early to catch his mum and daddy still in bed.

But, still, yes, every morning, he did leave Orio, to go and do other things, as he only played with Orio at night!

"Sorry!" Mumbled Teeku.

"That's alright Teeku, I actually catch up on my sleep during the day. So I don't mind a bit of a peace and quiet", Orio said with a twinkle in his one eye.

Teeku smiled too a bit sheepish smile.

"But my mum, my room, my chair in the kitchen, my house, my garden, my daddy, how will I share this all? " he asked Orio.

Orio seemed to know a lot about sharing, it seemed.

"Just as you are doing now! And the baby will not be only your mum's baby, it will be your daddy's baby too, and your younger brother or sister too. You will share it with your mum and your daddy. Yes, and everything else, you will be able to share it all with your new brother, or sister!"

Teeku had started to feel better already. But then Orio had reminded him about tickles, yes and he thought, when the baby is a bit bigger, they could both tickle their parents together, that would be so much fun!

Teeku started to giggle. He was feeling so much better, and he wanted to tell Orio that, but then suddenly, he heard his mum calling him,

"Teeku, Teeku, where are you, it is lunch time".

"Arey, why are you sleeping on the floor, wake up darling! Aren't you going to help mum set the table?" His mum said.

Teeku woke up and looked around. Orio was lying beside him on the floor, face down, it looked as if it was taking a nap too.

But, before running away to the kitchen, Teeku picked Orio up, and put it back in the carton, and with a pat on its head, said, "You sleep now, I'll see you in the evening!"

And then he ran to the kitchen. He was hungry, and suddenly he was not sad anymore.

Actually, now, he couldn't wait for those tickles!

  1. I thought you said no 'morals' - you can't help yourself! But that's the skill ie to be able to tell a story with more than one level of meaning
